Purpose

To approve funding of £0.803m to address public health priorities and challenges, focusing upon areas with poor health outcomes and/or deteriorating performance, contributing significantly to inequalities or in need of exploration of a different approach.

The allocation of funding is as follows:

·       Health Protection - £0.195m

·       School aged children health initiatives - £0.175m

·       Addictions - £0.145m

·       Early years targeted provisions - £0.070m

·       Sexual Health - £0.050m

·       Emergent Public Health priorities and health inequalities - £0.168m

Decision

That £0.803m of temporary funding be allocated to address public health priorities.

Alternative options considered

Public Health officers reviewed current performance, existing activity and gaps in provision which has led to public health priorities for investment being identified. Alternative options were considered but rejected as they did not have sufficient evidence that they would significantly impact on identified priorities, were not innovative options or did not have exit strategy.
