Purpose

This report presents an application from a
local organisation requesting £2000 towards the purchase of
essential items for the in-patient unit and to uphold the wellbeing
of patients from across local communities from the Local Member
Grants Scheme.

County Councillor Gary Kniveton considered and
rejected a Local Member Grant to St. John’s Hospice,
Lancaster towards the cost of essential items for the in-patient
unit and to uphold the wellbeing of patients from across local
communities.
 
The reason for the rejection is Councillor
Kniveton states although he thinks St John's Hospice are to be
commended for the fine work they do – and he has experience
of supporting them in his capacity as CEO of the Bay Veterans
Association in Morecambe – they are a national brand who are
able to fundraise at national level.  He therefore wishes to
use his budget to support smaller organisations on a local level
within Lancashire.
