Full council record
Purpose
The purpose of the proposed Bus Stop Clearways
are to facilitate the safe passage of vehicles and pedestrians,
providing Equality Act (2010) compliant bus stops.
The introduction of the Bus Stop Clearways will prevent parked
vehicles from obstructing kerbside boarding / alighting, thereby
improving bus journey times and consistency.
Additionally, the proposals seek to remove three bus stops which
conflict with existing parking demands and relocates a bus stop to
a more appropriate location, determined by the optimised spacing
between bus stops of 400m to 600m.
Following receipt of feedback after the formal consultation period
carried out between 25 February 2025 to 25 March 2025, it is
proposed to modify two of the bus stop clearways on Preston Road
and relocate them to more suitable positions.
Subsequently, it is now also proposed to remove an additional
existing bus stop as this is currently positioned between two
private driveways, making an upgraded boarding option here
unattainable.
These modifications will continue to meet the core purpose of the
proposals whilst addressing local residential and business
concerns
Consultations
For Bus Stops - A formal Modification Consultation was carried out
between 17th June-2025 until 15 July-2025 which included frontagers
to the proposed location of the Bus Stop being notified and notices
being displayed on site. Divisional county councillors were
consulted along with the council's usual consultees.
Following formal consultation, two objections were received. As a
result of the modification, both of these have been
withdrawn.
