Purpose
This proposal introduces a puffin crossing on Market Street, Edenfield between the proposed development on the west side of Market Street and Edenfield Primary School on the eastern side.
The purpose of this proposal is to help improve safety, support active travel and provide a convenient, accessible and safe crossing point for pedestrians and vulnerable users; and particularly for those accessing the school.
The proposals are being pursued as part of a Section 278 Agreement under the Highways Act 1980 as part of a new housing development on the West side of Blackburn Road to improve pedestrian links to the east side of Market Street.
Consultations
Formal consultation was carried out between 20th March 2026 and 17th April 2026 which included advertising in the local press and notices being displayed on site. Divisional county councillors were consulted along with the council's usual consultees and the consultation documents posted on the council's website.
