Purpose

The council provided evidence to the Southport Public Inquiry last year as a core participant and at the outset committed to approaching it with full candour and placing the families of the bereaved and those physically and psychologically injured at the heart of the process. 

Findings from Phase One of the Inquiry were published on the 13 April 2026. This report summarises the recommendations for the Council, the improvements already made by the Council, the next steps for completing recommendations and our focus on continual service improvement.

The report will also highlight our support for the inquiry with Phase Two which will focus on effective management of risk from violence?fixated?individuals, appropriate interventions and multi-agency arrangements.
