Purpose

The purpose of this proposal is to revoke the existing 40mph restriction, reverting the speed limit to 30mph by virtue of street lighting.

The reversion from 40mph to 30mph is required for the general road safety for all highway users to facilitate development works. The proposal better reflects the road’s character, usage, and safety requirements to ensure consistency in that area.

The proposal also seeks to introduce a section of 50mph on A674 Blackburn Road, matching the existing speed limits on site, but at a reduced length. The subsequent reversion of a short section on this road to 30mph by virtue of street lighting will provide protection and more time for vehicles to adjust their speeds on approach to the junction.

Consultations

Formal consultation was carried out between 10th March-2026 until 07th March-2026 which included advertising in the local press and notices being displayed on site. Divisional county councillors were consulted along with the council's usual consultees and the consultation documents posted on the council's website.

Following formal consultation No Objections were received.
