Purpose

Following consultation between 25 April 2024 and 23 May 2024 Lancashire County Council are readvertising the proposals to reduce the 50mph speed limit along Main Road reverting the section of road around the new access to 30mph by virtue of street lighting, due to the time limit expiring.

A new access is to be constructed onto Main Road Galgate. In order to reduce the speed of vehicles approaching the new junction, the 30mph speed limit location requires relocating northwards.

Consultations

Formal consultation was carried out between 21 May 2026 until 18 June 2026 which included advertising in the local press and notices being displayed on site. Divisional county councillors were consulted along with the council's usual consultees and the consultation documents posted on the council's website.

These proposals were previously advertised and consulted on between 24 April 2024 and 23 May 2024. Due to an administrative delay, the legal deadline for sealing the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) was missed, necessitating a re-advertisement and full re-consultation on the proposal.

Following formal consultation 3 Objections were received and 1 has since been withdrawn leaving 2 reaming objections

Decision

Peter Bell, Highway Regulation Manager, has taken a decision to approve the Lancashire County Council (Main Road (A6), Galgate, Lancaster City) (Revocation And 50mph Speed Limit) Order Legal Reference: LSG4/103995/AFR.
