Purpose

The proposals are required to facilitate safe walking, wheeling and cycling along Queen Street / Avenham Lane, including segregation of pedestrians and cyclists for approximately 700m with the introduction of a bidirectional cycle lane to be sited within the existing grass verge.

Proposals also include priority and parallel crossings over side roads and Avenham Lane to provide safer onward connectivity.

Sections of shared use are proposed at the termination points to allow cyclists to transition on to onward shared use routes, and provide connectivity where there is insufficient space to fully segregate users.

Consultations

Formal consultation was carried out between 27th February-2026 until 27th March-2026 which included advertising in the local press and notices being displayed on site. Divisional county councillors were consulted along with the council's usual consultees and the consultation documents posted on the council's website.

Following formal consultation 2 Objections were received. The main points raised in the responses along with Officer comments are outlines in Appendix C.

Decision
