Purpose
The proposals are being pursued as part of a Section 278 agreement under the Highways Act 1980. These proposals are being funded fully by the development linked to the new cricket ground and the future housing development and the associated planning conditions.
The purpose of the proposed 40mph speed limit is to improve the safety of motorised and non-motorised users, mitigating against additional traffic flows and pedestrian movements from new cricket ground and future housing development.
The proposals also seek to implement a Speed Limit Order for the sections of National Speed Limit (derestricted), where street lighting is present. The signage has been in place for a number of years but has had no formal Order in place to allow for effective enforcement. There will be no changes to these restrictions or their extents on site. Therefore, drivers will not be subject to any changes as a result of this part of the proposals.
