The Development Control Committee granted planning permission for the retention and continuation of use of Elswick Generation Station for natural gas extraction and electricity generation for a further five years, including the installation of a new generation unit, on 15/07/2020. This decision was subject to conditions controlling time limits, working programmes, hours of working, noise, plant colour, highways, and restoration.
