Decision

1.1       Approve the
implementation of the White Ribbon Campaign, including the
associated action plan.

1.2       Commit to achieving White
Ribbon accreditation within 12 months and ensure the
council’s activities align with its principles.

1.3       Delegate authority to the
Director of Resident & Business Services to oversee the
delivery of the action plan.

Reasons for the decision

The White Ribbon Campaign is a global
initiative encouraging men and boys to take a stand against
violence towards women. The campaign involves raising awareness,
promoting cultural change, and implementing specific measures to
address violence at a local level.

2.2       Following a motion
at Full Council on 10 December 2024, the council pledged to:

•
Work towards White Ribbon accreditation.
•
Develop and deliver a targeted action plan to meet the
accreditation requirements.
•
Lead by example in fostering an inclusive, safe community free from
violence.

3.3       A draft action plan has
been prepared, detailing specific activities and timeframes to meet
these objectives. The pre-application activities have been put in
place and the council will now formally begin the application
process.

Alternative options considered

3.1 Not implementing the White Ribbon Campaign
would fail to meet the council’s commitment to addressing
violence and supporting community safety and would not support the
motion at Full Council.

3.2       Adopting a less
formal approach would not achieve the required cultural change and
external accreditation.
