Purpose

Lichfield District Council
(TBC) works with Tamworth Borough Council (TBC) to deliver a joint
waste service (JWS) service to local households.                                       
Local councils are required to
roll out weekly waste collections from 1 April 2026 as part of the
Government’s Simpler Recycling initiative. 
 
The Department for Environment
Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has provided new burdens funding
for the purchase of food waste vehicles to support the roll out of
the new service.
 
The joint waste service has
£1,227,600 to invest in food waste vehicles (£818,400
LDC & £409,200 (TBC).
 
A PCR-compliant tendering
exercise has been conducted to select a supplier for the food waste
vehicles. The assessment of the tenders has identified Terberg
Matec UK as the preferred bidder on both financial and quality
grounds for the proposed contract.
 
The tender submitted indicates
the new fleet of ten food waste vehicles can be delivered within
the allocated £1,227,600 budget. 
 
The new contract will be hosted
by Lichfield District Council and the cost of the new contract will
be shared between the two councils as part of the existing joint
waste partnership agreement.

Decision

The Leader of the Council approved the
decision to award a contract for the purchase of ten food waste
collection vehicles to Terberg Matec UK
and to delegate the finalisation of the contract to the Director
for Resident & Business Services and the Director of Finance,
Regulation & Enforcement (S151), provided it is deliverable
within the allocated budget.
