Purpose

1.1       Lichfield District
Council’s Air Quality Management Area Order No.2 covers the
strip around the A38 from Wall Island to Alrewas as shown in
Appendix 1.
1.2       The Order was made
in 2016 in accordance with the mandatory requirements of the
Environment Act 1995 as measured nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels in
the area exceeded the annual mean objective of 40µg/m3 as set
in the Regulations made under the Act.
1.3       Measured levels of
NO2 in AQMA No.2 have now been 10% or more below the annual mean
objective for the past five years.
1.4       This has been
reported to DEFRA and they have advised that they support
revocation of AQMA No.2.

Decision

1.1       To approve the
revocation of Air Quality Management Area Order No.2.

Reasons for the decision

2.1       The Regulatory &
Licensing Committee met on 27 Feb 2025 to consider the revocation
of Air Quality Management Area Order No.2 and recommended to the
Cabinet Member for Housing & Local Plan that it be
revoked. 
 
2.2       A copy of the committee
report and plan is attached.
 
2.3       If approved, the necessary
legal steps will then be taken to revoke the AQMA.
