Purpose

To avoid unnecessary hardship being caused by
the reduced rate at which sponsor thank you payments will be
made.

To avoid where possible sponsorships coming to an end prematurely,
which could lead to additional pressure on the private rented
sector and unnecessary homelessness presentations.

To further recognise the important contribution being made by Homes
for Ukraine Sponsors who have welcomed people in need into their
homes.

Content

That the use of Homes for Ukraine funding is
approved to continue the £150 monthly top-up of thank you
payments for all eligible hosts under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme
until 1 April 2027.

Alternative options considered

To do nothing

This could cause financial difficulties for hosts and increase the
chances of sponsorships coming to an end prematurely, which could
in turn lead to increased pressure on the private rented sector and
unnecessary homeless presentations.

Topping up thank you payments will allow more time for sponsors to
properly consider their options for example moving to a ‘rent
a room’ scheme and for any guests who need to move on to do
so in a managed way.
