RESOLVED:

1.
     That this Council
welcomes the General Election that has been called for Thursday 4
July 2024 rather than in the autumn months.

2.
     In the interests of
the people of Milton Keynes this Council calls on the three MPs who
will be elected for our constituencies to promote immediately the
following policies due to their urgency:

a)
     That while
acknowledging the fiscal outlook for public spending is likely to
be constrained for some time to come, recognises the need for enhanced central government
funding for this Council, and all others in the same position in
order to close our present funding gap, allowing us to maintain
vital public services which we have successfully continued but in
the long term may be forced to reduce.

b)      A
commitment to sustainable long-term funding for adults and
children’s social care.

c)
     Support the LGA
Local Government White Paper which includes the request for long
term local government funding settlements and suggests several
freedoms and flexibilities to improve the financial position of
local authorities.
