Purpose

To seek a Delegated
Decision to advertise and consult on a number of traffic regulation
measures as part of the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) scheme
for the area between Byker Bridge and Shields Road, and, in the
event that no objections are received, to implement the proposed
traffic management and road safety improvements.

Content

Authorise:
1. that notices in
respect of the proposals described in this report, should be
prepared, and advertised;
2. that in the event
that no objections are received to the proposed bus lane extension,
prohibition on turning right onto Elizabeth Street and no waiting
restriction following the period of consultation required by
statute, a Traffic Regulation Order shall be made under section 1
of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to implement these
measures;
3. that, in the event
that no objections are received to the proposed change of speed
limit on Byker Bridge, the Council shall make a speed limit order
under section 84 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984; and
4. that, in the event
that the chief police officer raises no objection to the proposed
toucan crossing, the Council shall exercise its power under section
23 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to establish the
crossing.
