Purpose

To support the creation of a new Centre for
Writing within the centre of the city, we will be seeking
authorisation to enter into legal agreements with a Joint Venture
between New Writing North and Northumbria University. The
agreements will include a grant award specifically relating to the
£5m Cultural Development Fund money already secured by the
Local Authority from the Arts Council. The legal agreements will
also include a grant award from Newcastle City Council's own
resources. These grant awards will be used to contribute towards
the capital costs relating to the purchase and refurbishment of a
city centre building.
