Summary

Consideration was given to a report which responded to the Notice of Motion to City Council on 15 July 2026, which requested a report to Cabinet setting out any proposed changes to the Litter Bin Policy and Process.

Decision

That Cabinet agreed to:

i)  Note the current process for the litter bin review, and how this is available for everyone to contribute to.

ii)  Agree the new proposed timetable for the review of litter bins, using an evidence-based approach to ensure any bins are installed in the most appropriate location, as detailed in section 1.11 of the report.

iii)  Approve the proposal for installation of up to 2 additional litter bins in every ward – subject to need – funded from specific funding agreed at Cabinet on 20 July 2026 for the Administration’s initial priorities, and for the service to work alongside ward members to agree possible locations of these bins, as detailed in section 1.12 and 1.13 of the report.

Reasons for the Decision

The proposals are in direct response to the Notice of Motion agreed by City Council on 15 July 2026.
