The Cabinet of Northumberland Council decided on 14 October 2025 to delegate authority to the Executive Director of Place and Regeneration to submit the Full Business Case for the Maltings Theatre redevelopment. They also delegated authority to the Executive Director of Transformation and Resources to accept £25,500,000 in funding from the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal. The Cabinet approved the allocation of £500,000 from the Council's Climate Change Capital Fund and authorised expenditure of up to £6,883,201 for improvement works to the Gymnasium building at Berwick Barracks and to enable the theatre's Full Business Case submission.
