Purpose

The council owns, or has an
interest, in several companies and joint ventures. This report
makes proposals about the future management and oversight of
entities which the council wholly owns or has a controlling
interest in (‘council owned entities’). The proposals
are set out in the Draft Companies Governance
Handbook.

The handbook draws on best
practice guidance and sets out the standards and principles the
council will apply in relation to council owned
entities.
It is intended to ensure that the
council and the entities it owns, or controls, operate
transparently, compliantly and with clear accountability about
decision making.

The Companies Governance Handbook
has already been considered by the Shareholder Cabinet
Committee.

Decision

Cabinet resolved to approve the
Companies Governance Handbook.
