Cabinet considered a
report of the Director of Public Health and Communities / Cabinet
Members for Health and Communities & Co-operation which sought
approval of the Borough’s five-year Anti-Poverty strategy.
The strategy had been developed with partners to provide a medium
to a long term approach to tackling poverty in the Borough.
The Public Health
Development Manager was in attendance to present the report and to
answer the questions and the comments of the Cabinet Members.
Resolved:
1.
That the content of the Anti-Poverty Strategy 2024-29 be noted;
2.
That the approach outlined in the strategy to tackle poverty in the
Borough be endorsed;
3.
That the Anti-Poverty Strategy 2024-29 be approved.
Reason for
decision:
To have a medium to
long term strategy for tackling poverty in the Borough due to the
rising destitution and inequality faced across the area.
Alternatives
considered and rejected:
To not have a poverty
strategy; this would prejudice the ability of the Council to help
people to break free of poverty through a process of participatory
co-production.
