Purpose

Report No.72/2025 was introduced by Councillor
C Wise, Portfolio Holder for Transport, Environment and
Communities.

Before opening for debate, Councillor Wise proposed an amendment to
the first recommendation to increase the visibility of Rutland
Ospreys in the report, noting that Ospreys were not originally part
of the protected designations but should be mentioned in the main
report. However it was decided there was a lot of value in
emphasising the priority species, specific to Rutland not only for
their Biodiversity value but for the additional benefits such as
ecotourism for the area.

The amendment delegated authority to the Strategic Director of
Places in consultation with the Portfolio Holder for Transport,
Environment and Communities to sign off an amendment to include
osprey information.

This was proposed by Councillor Wise and seconded. Upon being put
to the vote, with seven votes in favour, the motion was unanimously
carried.

Decision

To insert additional text into the
Biodiversity Duty Report

Alternative options considered

Not including the additional text missed an
opportunity to highlight one of our key priority species.
