Purpose

To seek approval to temporarily close Sandbrook Road, Ainsdale in various phases, to allow Scottish Power Energy Networks to install a new 33kv cable.

Decision

Decision(s): That

  1. the temporary closure of the carriageway of Sandbrook Road, Ainsdale be approved; and
  2. the necessary legal procedures, including those of public consultation and advertising the Council’s intention to implement the Order, be approved.

Reason(s) for the Decision(s):

Scottish Power are installing a new 14km 33 KV cable from Formby to Southport as an upgrade to the existing network. The new cable will add additional capacity to the network required to meet the demanding needs of customers, including the increase in EV charging. Due to the restrictive widths of the road, it will be necessary to complete the works under a temporary road closure. Works will be undertaken in various phases to ensure that access is always to businesses and property owners. Scottish Power are to use Camargue, a specialist publicity company to carry out customer liaison and communication for the scheme.

Alternative Options Considered and Rejected

Discussions did take place at site meetings with regards to carrying the work out under temporary signals, but due to the road width and the fact that the works can be completed faster, it was decided that a one-way road closure would be the best method of traffic management.
