UNANIMOUSLY: That the Housing Policy
Committee:-
a)
Approves the Housing Fire Safety Policy in the form
attached at Appendix 1.
b)
Grants delegated authority to the Executive
Director, Neighbourhood Services, to make any minor amendments and
updates to the policy as required, in order

Housing Policy Committee.
13.3
Reasons for Decision
13.3.1
The introduction and
implementation of the Draft policy will support the Council in
achieving its responsibilities as a Social Housing Landlord. This
draft policy specifically addresses fire safety in relation to
council-owned social housing buildings. The reason for this is to
ensure residents and stakeholders understand the Council’s
approach to managing fire safety for social housing. Introducing a
specific policy for Social Housing makes Council communications
easier and clearer for all to understand. This, therefore, then
decreased risk relating to a lack of understanding.
13.4
Alternatives Considered and Rejected
13.4.1
Alternative Option
1:
Do
Nothing:
Adopt the corporate policy,
however there is a risk that this policy doesn’t set out
clearly the Housing services commitment to managing fire
safety.
