Purpose
Summary of rationale for Recruitment to the
Interim Director of Belonging.
Content
It is recommended that, having consulted with
the Chair of the Senior Officer Employment Committee and
representatives from that Committee of the other Groups, the Chief
Executive agrees:
1.
That the preferred candidate identified in the Appendix to this
report is recruited to the role of Director of Belonging on an
interim basis, on the pay package described in the Appendix, for a
period of up to 6 months or until the recruitment to the permanent
role is completed.
Reasons for the decision
The alternative options were considered and
discounted. Service delivery is paramount and therefore the service
needs leadership and guidance to perform statutory functions and
minimise possible negative impact on the services provided and
wellbeing of children and young people. Further delay in recruiting
to the role would cause a significant administrative impact to
Children’s Services and detriment to the children and young
people of Sheffield. This interim recruitment will provide
stability and guidance pending the completion of recruitment for
the permanent appointment.
Alternative options considered
The service cannot sustain this post being
vacant for a further period due to the risk of not providing the
services to children and young people. The two options below were
considered however at Director level there was no additional
capacity within the Service and if we do nothing whilst we take the
time to search for a permanent candidate there could be significant
impact on service delivery to our customers impacting on the
wellbeing of children and young people.
Alternative Option 1:
Capacity at Director level
There is no additional Director
capacity within Children’s Services
Alternative Option 2:
Do nothing immediately
Post not covered will impact on service
delivery.
