projects.

Association attended the meeting and outlined their involvement and

9.2

RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY: That Strategy and
Resources Policy Committee approves the document ‘Our Vision
for the Valley’ set out in Appendix A to this report as a
statement of the Council’s aspirations for the regeneration
of Gleadless Valley, working in partnership with the local
community and delivery partners.

9.3

Reasons for Decision

9.3.1

‘Our
Vision for the Valley’ represents a new start for the stalled
Gleadless Valley Regeneration Programme. It sets out a clear way
forward that has been developed in partnership with the local
community.

9.3.2

By approving the Vision document, the Council is demonstrating
its commitment to early delivery against resident priorities as
well as supporting an ambitious partnership vision for the valley
that it is hoped will attract new partners and external
funding.

9.4

Alternatives Considered and
Rejected

9.4.1

Option 1: Scaling down the level of ambition set out in the
Vision
If we were to only include fully funded projects in the Vision,
this would avoid the risk of raising unrealistic expectations about
what can be achieved. This is not recommended because an inspiring
vision is required to attract external
investment.

9.4.2

Option 2: Holding off publishing plans until external funding
has been secured
This is not recommended because we want to explain to residents
what we are going to do with the funding we do have and because the
Vision itself will be a key tool to attract external
investment.
