Full council record
Purpose
Sheffield based charity Endeavour, have submitted
a funding application through the wraparound childcare programme to
set up a new wraparound childcare provision providing after school
childcare from their newly refurbished community building. The
wraparound provision will add to the provider’s AP and youth
provision to serve families of 5 primary schools including one
Specialist School as well as children attending its own AP
provision. Sheffield City Council has received wraparound programme
funding to allocate to schools and providers to increase the
amount of wraparound care. This new provision will deliver 50
afterschool club places commencing February 2026.
Content
That a grant payment of £150,000 be made
to Endeavour Sheffield (registered charity 275061) as a one-off
payment to deliver a new wraparound childcare services for families
of several schools in locality B (Firvale/Firth Park and
surrounding areas). The grant will be subject to a legally binding
funding agreement.
Reasons for the decision
Sheffield City Council is delivering the
Government’s Wraparound programme, to increase the amount of
wraparound childcare for parents of primary aged children. Plans
for delivery of the wraparound programme were approved at Education
Children and Families Policy Committee on 8 February 2024. There is
currently no wraparound provision in Schools across this area of
the city. The demand from parents is insufficient for the schools
to establish their own provision but a small number of parents at
each school need the service to help them work. Endeavour have
ascertained following consultation with the schools and parents
that there will be sufficient combined demand to develop a viable
provision for families across this area. This provision has a robust business plan to develop
quality wraparound childcare provision offering 50 after school
places and could expand further if demand grows. It supports SCC in
its Wraparound Childcare Delivery Plan which has been endorsed by
the DfE.
Alternative options considered
Refusal of application or approval with
reduced funding allocation
