Reasons for Decision

9.3.1

The Safety of Women and Girls Charter
has been consulted on extensively so
that it reflects the concerns of women who use the city centre for
leisure or work. It reflects current best practice in working with
businesses in partnership to ensure Sheffield City Centre is a safe
and vibrant place for all citizens.

9.3.2

Led by Licensing in the Council it will draw
on the support of businesses, other council departments and
partners such as South Yorkshire Police working together to make
the city a safe place and build on our achievements and commitments
in being a White Ribbon accredited council.

Alternatives Considered and Rejected

9.4.1

Alternative Option
1:

To continue with the existing
Charter. This is four years old and contains out of date
information and is not reflective of current best practice and was
not prepared based on extensive consultation.

9.4.2

Alternative Option
2:

To delete the Charter. This
would not be in keeping with our commitment to end violence against
women and girls as a White Ribbon accredited city.
