Purpose
In November 2022, following a site visit, Vodafone confirmed that none of their underground apparatus or cables would be affected by our carriageway works.
Unfortunately, some unidentified ductwork discovered in the footpath. has now been identified as belonging to Vodafone by an engineer that attended site.
It has been agreed with BMBC that the Vodafone cables can be slewed and lowered to the required carriageway depth, rather than diverted. A full diversion would have been extremely costly and caused severe delay to the programme.
Vodafone have provided a detailed C4 estimate for carrying out the work in the sum of £211,032.94. This figure includes the full 18% discount in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, which outlines cost sharing for measures necessary where apparatus is affected by highway works.
Decision
To approve the C4 estimate figure submitted by Vodafone in the sum of £211,032.94 for works to underground services for Phase 1 of the A61 works, the widening of Old Mill Lane Bridge.
Alternative options considered
Reject the quote. As Vodafone are the sole provider, the works would not be completed, and we would therefore not be able to progress the Project.
Accept the quote. This will allow us to move ahead with the programme, albeit with a slight delay.
