The Cabinet Member for
Parks, Highways & Transport Services has considered a report
outlining that the council had secured funding to develop a Quality
Bus Transit (QBT) corridor, aiming to make travel quicker and
easier for bus passengers in Stockport. This initiative was being
developed in collaboration with Transport for Greater Manchester
(TfGM) and was funded by the government's City Region Sustainable
Transport Settlement (CRSTS). The project was part of a major
investment spanning the entire 330 bus route connecting Stockport
to Ashton via Hyde and Dukinfield, which would see enhancements to
bus stops, junctions, crossings, and access points.
It was noted that
‘Scheme E – Stockport Road East, Bredbury’ relating to the provision of an
improved traffic light junction at the junction of Stockport Road
East, George Lane and Redhouse Lane; the removal of the existing
westbound cycle lane on Hyde Road between the left turn lane and
the ahead lane; the provision of cycling and walking links across
the green space located to the southeast of this junction; and the
introduction of ‘No Waiting At Any Time’ parking
restrictions along Stockport Road East ad been considered and
recommended for approval by the Wernetht Area Committee at its meeting on 29 July
2024, however since that date it had been necessary to make some
minor amendments to the proposed schedule of traffic regulation
orders as a result of detailed design changes.
The Cabinet Member
Parks, Highways & Transport Services has then given approval to
the proposed ‘Scheme E – Stockport Road East,
Bredbury’ scheme as detailed in
the report, and to the legal advertising of the associated package
of traffic regulation orders as detailed in the revised schedule of
orders attached to the report and, subject to the receipt of no
objections within 21 days of the advertisement date, the subsequent
making of the orders.
Alternative options considered
Other options were considered, but those
contained within the scheme and TROs were considered to be the most
appropriate.
