Purpose

The report sets out the outcome of the public
consultation on the expansion of the Mayoral development area
covered by Stockport Town Centre West Mayoral Development
Corporation (MDC) from the area ‘Stockport Town Centre
West’ to include the area ‘Stockport Town Centre
East’. It also outlines the proposed process to move forward
with proposals to create a new Mayoral Development Corporation to
lead the regeneration of the whole of the town centre

Content

The Cabinet has
considered a report summarising the outcome of the public
consultation on the proposal for the area covered by Stockport Town
Centre West MDC to be expanded, enabling it to become the delivery
vehicle for housing led regeneration across the entirety of the
town centre and has:-
 
(1) Noted the outcome
of the public consultation on the proposal to expand the Mayoral
development area to cover the whole of Stockport town centre and
create a new Mayoral Development Corporation to lead the
regeneration of that area in line with the Strategic Regeneration
Frameworks for Stockport Town Centre West (2019) and Stockport Town
Centre East (recommended for adoption, September 2025); and
 
(2) Endorsed the
proposal that the GM Mayor submit a paper to the GMCA at their
meeting on 26th September to seek approval to designate this
expanded area as a Mayoral Development Area; and
 
(3) Endorsed the
proposal that, subject to approval of the GMCA, the GM Mayor will
(a) designate the existing and expanded area together as a new
Mayoral development area and publicise the designation, (b) notify
the Secretary of State of the designation and (c) notify the
Secretary of State of the name to be given to the new Mayoral
Development Corporation for the area.
