Decision
The Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture & Protection has given approval to the adoption of the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for Promoting Responsible Dog Ownership in Stockport (Appendix 1).
This decision replaces the previous decision (ref. CMDCCPP3) titled 'Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for Promoting Responsible Dog Ownership in Stockport'. This decision is being published to approve an updated version of the Public Spaces Protection Order, following the identification of sites missing from the schedules accompanying the earlier decision. These sites have now been added so that the decision and supporting documents accurately identify the locations covered by the relevant restrictions. The purpose of this decision is to correct the omissions, and provide a clear and transparent record of the revised coverage.
Alternative options considered
The PSPO is considered a proportionate way of addressing the detrimental impact of those dog owners who behave irresponsibly and in ensuring responsible dog ownership within public spaces in Stockport. By not adopting the Order, certain enforcement measures would not be possible i.e., the Dog Warden would be unable to issue any fixed penalty notices.
