The council's current
Local Development Scheme was approved in January 2024.  It set out that consultation would be undertaken
on a draft of the Stockport Local Plan in July and August 2024.
 
As a consequence of
the announcement that a general election will be held on 4 July
2024, and seeking to avoid making a decision which is controversial
in the context of the election, there has been a delay to the
decision making process required to
enable the July/August consultation to commence.  The council subsequently needs to update the LDS
to reflect the rescheduled consultation period.  It is now proposed that consultation will be
undertaken on a draft of the Stockport Local Plan from the start of
September until mid-October.
 
The Cabinet Member for
Climate Change & Environment has therefore given approval the
July 2024 update of the Stockport Local Development Scheme (LDS)
set out in Appendix A to this report.
