Purpose
To consider Public space
CCTV
Content
That a public consultation will take place to consider the
installation of public space CCTV in Summerton Way,
Stratford-upon-Avon.
Reasons for the decision
Stratford-on-Avon District
Council has been aware of concerns from residents about anti-social
behaviour taking place around the alleyways near the scout hut and
the top end of Summerton Way. As a result the council have worked closely with
Warwickshire Police to address these concerns. Funding obtained by
Warwickshire County Council through the Shared Prosperity Fund has
allowed for the opportunity for CCTV to be installed at this
location. As a part of this approach two new CCTV cameras are
proposed to be installed and monitored by the council’s CCTV
service. The purpose of these cameras would be to detect and
prevent crime and provide community reassurance.
In consideration of installing
CCTV the council wishes to consult with residents, nearby
businesses and community groups to obtain their views on the
proposal. Such consultation will also inform data privacy impact
assessments and ensure compliance with guidance from the
Information Commissioner and Surveillance Camera Commissioners
Office.
An online consultation will be
carried out for an 8-week period. Local resident’s businesses
and landowners near the proposed CCTV deployment will also be
written to seeking their views.
Alternative options considered
A number
of options were considered by the
Monitoring Officer, these included:
That the council
undertakes a public consultation on the proposal to install public
space CCTV in Summerton Way, Stratford-upon-Avon.
That the council does
not undertake a public consultation and withdraws its intention to
install CCTV at Summerton Way, Stratford-upon-Avon.
