Proposed licence to underlet The Museum, Globe House Alcester

Content
That the Council give consent
to grant a licence to underlet.
Reasons for the decision
The whole of Globe House is
leased to Warwickshire County Council (WCC) from 2015 for 99 years
at a peppercorn rent. The use is for
library, museum and public services.
WCC is responsible for all outgoings and repair &
maintenance.
In 2016 for ten years, WCC
underlet part of the building (the ground floor museum) to Alcester
Heritage Trust for a peppercorn with a use as a museum to be open
to the public.
Because the Trust wishes to
source external funding, they need to have longer tenure of the
property and wish to surrender and take a re-grant of the lease for
ten years from current date. The
proposal is that WCC grants this underlet on similar terms to the
current underlet, and the Council grants a licence allowing WCC to
do so. The rent for the new underlet
will also be a peppercorn.
The continued use of the
property is of benefit to residents and visitors and agreeing to
the licence to underlet will aid the Trust’s work.
Alternative options considered
• Agree to grant
a licence to underlet; or
• Decline to
grant a licence to underlet.
