Decision

The Executive RESOLVED that

(i)                 the joint Interim Local Government Reorganisation Plan, as set out at Annex 1 to the agenda report, be submitted to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government;

(ii)                this Council’s preference be for three local authorities to emerge within Surrey, merging appropriate District and Boroughs and assuming top tier local authority duties; and

(iii)              an initial preference be agreed to be merged with Guildford and Waverley Borough Councils, potentially with the addition of Woking Borough Council, provided a sustainable solution to their and wider Surrey unserviceable council debts can be created in partnership with central government through the Local Government Reorganisation process.
