Purpose

To enable works to be executed on
or near the public highway ensuring safety of the general public as
described in the Public Notice, (Appendix 1).
 

Content

Approved:

The traffic
authority for a road may at any time by Order restrict or prohibit
temporarily the use of the road, or of any part of it, by vehicles,
or vehicles of any class, or by pedestrians, where it appears to
them that it is -

1.     
necessary or
expedient because the works are being or proposed to be executed on
or near the road; or for the purposes of enabling the duty imposed
by section 89(1)(a) or (2) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990
(litter clearing and cleaning) to be discharged; or

2.     
necessary because
of the likelihood of danger to the public, or of serious damage to
the road, which is not attributable to such works.

 

Reasons for the decision

That approval be given to make the
attached legal order (Appendix 2) enabling the gas main replacement
works.  

 

Alternative options considered

If the order is not approved,
Cadent Gas Ltd will be unable to carry out gas main replacement
works.
