Purpose

The Essex Planning Officers Association (EPOA)
has been working to revise the County’s parking standards
guidance.

The guidance is referred to in our Local Plan and is used by the
Council when determining Planning Applications to establish the
correct amount and type of parking for different kinds of
development. The guidance sets requirements for different vehicle
types, design and location, dimensions for parking, and a suggested
quantum for different types of development.
EPOA are consulting on parking standards for development of all
types and sizes, including housing, retail, commercial and leisure
uses in the Part 1 document. A new approach to Garden Communities
and Large-Scale Developments is also being consulting on in the
Part 2 document.
The consultation and documents are being hosted on the Essex County
Council (ECC) website on behalf of EPOA. The deadline for responses
is 11th December 2023.
The consultation provides an opportunity for the Council to
influence parking guidance for Essex. The Council’s response
was shaped by input from the Development Management Team and the
Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community Team, in consultation
with the Planning Portfolio Holder.
