Projects Reserve.

Reasons for the decision

This project is
part of a wider plan to address a range of cost pressures across
the Council’s assets, to support improvements to the
Council's sports facilities.

The Sports and
Leisure Department aim to offer a high standard of facility for the
local community with a sustainable future. The current flooring is
old, worn and lifting and in need of replacement for hygiene and
health and safety reasons as well as to prevent any water damage in
areas where the floor is lifting, preserving the integrity of the
floor.
This work will not only provide a better experience to users in the
community but also act as preventative maintenance and contribute
to health and safety of the facility to mitigate any future
incidents that may result in injury.

Alternative options considered

To do spot repairs
on the worst affected areas, but this would not be cost effective
in the long run and will not leave an aesthetically pleasing finish
to the users of the centre. Additionally, over the years there have
been spot repairs, which has led to this situation.

To not do any work
at all but this could lead to further problems with the integrity
of the flooring further down the line and not be cost effective if
the underlayers of the flooring deteriorate more from water damage.
This could contribute to health and safety concerns, increasing the
chances of an incident happening where injury could occur.
