Full council record

Purpose

Thanet has 90 bus shelters across the
district which were installed and maintained as part of a contract
in return for revenue from the advertising boards. They are
currently coming
to their end of life and require work to make them H&S
compliant.

In preparation for a new service and
maintenance contract a condition survey was carried out which found
two third require replacement in the near future.

KCC
have announced a grant for bus shelters and TDC has applied for
approximately £1million in funding with the award due to be
made imminently.

Decision

Cabinet agreed the following:

To allow the procurement and award of a contract to
provide and install bus shelters within the Thanet
District;

2.  To allow the
procurement of a bus shelter advertisement, cleaning and
maintenance contract upon installation of new bus
shelters.

Reasons for the decision

Thanet District Council has a
requirement to provide and maintain bus shelters across the
district. Bus shelters are an integral part of bus travel providing
shelter and often somewhere to rest for service users.

Alternative options considered

Do Nothing - This would mean that
eventually the bus shelters will deteriorate and be
completely removed. The council would not be fulfilling its
requirement to provide bus stops which could lead to
challenges.
