Purpose

Free Saturday parking is offered at one car park in all of our main town centres all year round. This free Saturday parking is located in Mill Lane Car Park - Margate, Harold Road Car Park - Cliftonville, St Peter's Park Road Car Park - Broadstairs and Cannon Road Car Park - Ramsgate. Free Saturday parking is not currently offered in Birchington.

Decision

To suspend parking charges in Alpha Road Car Park Birchington on each of the five Saturdays in December 2023.

Reasons for the decision

To encourage visitors to the town and support the local retail economy during the Christmas period.

Alternative options considered

Free Saturday parking is already offered in four other town centre locations in Thanet. The decision to offer free parking in Alpha Road Car Park will allow for a similar situation to exist in Birchington during December 2023. The alternative would be to do nothing and continue to charge for parking at Alpha Road on Saturdays during December. This alternative was rejected.
