(Report of the Director of Street Scene, Leisure and Technical Services)

The report considered the next phases of the Borough’s Parking Action Plan and the potential implications of Local Government Reorganisation on future delivery of phases. 

Members were advised that, in light of the limited timeframe before the transition to a new Unitary Authority, priority would be given to progressing individual locations from the existing holding list rather than undertaking wider parking reviews. The proposed approach for Phases 16 and 17, as set out in Annex 1, was presented, with Phase 16 to be taken forward to informal consultation and reported back to the Board in September 2026. Any locations not progressed within Phases 16 and 17 would be carried forward by the new authority.

Following consideration by the Joint Transportation Board, the Cabinet Member for Finance, Waste and Technical Services resolved that:

(1)        the proposed approach for the final Phases of the Parking Action, be considered.

(2)        the content of Phases 16 and 17 of the Parking Action Plan as shown in Annex 1, be agreed; and

(3)        in the event that the Joint Transportation Board was discontinued, any agreements made in respect of the parking update be referred to the Communities and Environment Scrutiny Select Committee for further consideration, consultation and/or action as appropriate, in order to maintain continuity of the work undertaken by local Members.
