RESOLVED: Cabinet approved the
Tenancy Policy as part of the Council’s policy framework and
replaces the previous Tenancy Policy in Northampton.
REASONS RESOLVED:
1.
Under the Localism Act 2001 a local housing
authority is required to prepare and publish a Tenancy Strategy,
which was adopted in October 2024. The Tenancy Policy reflects the
Tenancy Strategy and outlines how the Council in its role as a
landlord will manage Council homes in line with the with the
Tenancy Strategy. The Tenancy Policy also ensures compliance with
the Tenancy Standard which is part of the Consumer Standards set by
the Regulator of Social Housing.
2.
To support and deliver on the Council’s
related strategies including the Tenancy Strategy, Corporate Plan,
Housing Strategy and Homelessness and Rough Sleeping
Strategy.
ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS:
There are no alternative
options. A new Tenancy Policy is required to ensure we are meeting
our regulatory and statutory requirements.
