RESOLVED: Cabinet:
a)
Recommended to Council approval of a capital budget
of £0.75 million for the provision of body storage to support
the proposed agreement with the hospitals.
b)
Delegated authority to the Executive Director
Finance and the Director of Governance and Monitoring Officer in
consultation with the Cabinet Members for Finance and Corporate
Services, to undertake the procurement and award of the contract
for temporary body storage facilities and transfer any other steps
associated with this project.

REASONS RESOLVED:
1.
To enable the Council to make best use of the
facilities at the proposed new Mortuary to meet the needs of local
residents.
2.
To support joint working with the health service and
the concept of one public estate with public sector organisations
to work together to make use of publicly owned facilities for the
benefit of residents.
3.
To maximise the value of the Council’s
investment.

ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS:
The NHS could seek to provide
body storage at an alternative facility but as there is no other
substantial body storage facility within the county it is likely to
require transport outside the area. This would increase cost and
reduce accessibility for families.
