Purpose

Sackville School in East Grinstead is one of two secondary schools for pupils aged 11-18 serving the East Grinstead locality. The School is a 9FE School (270 pupils per year group).

The existing all weather pitches have reached the end of their life and require urgent replacement to ensure facilities are appropriate to deliver the PE curriculum and enrichment activities. Following completion of detailed design, planning permission has been granted for the replacement pitches. Approval is now sought to approve the capital funding allocation to enable the project to be delivered. It is proposed that works are delivered by the school, undertaken as a School Managed Project, with passporting of funds to the school as works progress.

Decision

The Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Learning has approved:-

(1)  A total capital allocation of £1.6m made up of Section 106 developer contributions, Schools Basic Need funding and a school contribution to enable the delivery of the replacement all weather pitches at Sackville School as set out in paragraph 2.1 of this report, and to procure the delivery of the works in so far as required.

(2)  The passporting of a maximum and not to be exceeded total budget of £0.815m of received S106 developer contributions, in accordance with the relevant Section 106 Agreements and £0.625m Schools Basic Need funding to Sackville School, to fund the work outlined in paragraph 2.1 of the report.
