Purpose
To consider a proposed SEND Transport Policy
Decision
Resolved:
- 1. To update members on the outcome of the Council’s consultation on proposed changes to the post 16 SEND Transport Policy.
- 2. For members to agree the adoption of a revised Post 16 Travel
- 3. Assistance Policy and agree to the revised Post 16 Travel Assistance Policy Statement for SEND learners.
Reasons for Decision:
The proposals are primarily focused upon the promotion of increased independence for young people, supporting their preparedness for adulthood. It is anticipated that there would be a resultant shift from the significant usage of designated taxi provision to more independent travel via travel assistance and access to public transport or parental supported transport.
A saving of £406k for the 26/27 and a further £292k for the 27/28financial year has been identified in the MTFS.
Reduce the Council’s expenditure on external taxi providers over the next few years, where Post 16 learners on transport (per current Policy) is forecast to grow.
