REPORT ON THE PROPOSED CONFIRMATION OF THE NEW BOROUGH WIDE SMOKE CONTROL AREA

Purpose

This report provides an update on the progress
with the process of revoking the existing Smoke Control Orders and
the making of new borough wide Smoke Control Order. The
consultation has been completed and one objection has been
received, which is being brought to Committee for
consideration.

Decision

Resolved –
That the Tourism, Communities, Culture and Leisure Committee:
 
1. 
Noted the objection made during the statutory public
consultation process opposing the making of the proposed Smoke
Control Order as referred to at paragraphs 3.12 to 3.14 of the
report;

 
2. 
Approved that, subject to confirmation by the Secretary of State
for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Director of
Neighbourhoods be authorised to proceed with the process
of:

 
a. 
revocation of existing Smoke Control Orders, which affect the
Council’s administrative area; and

 
b.
the making of a single Smoke Control Order to apply to the whole of
the Council’s administrative area in the terms of the draft
order set out in Appendix 1 to the report.
