Purpose
Under the Environment Act 2021 (Commencement
No. 9 and Transitional Provisions) Regulations 2024, published by
the Government on 16th May 2024, it local waste collection
authorities are now required to put in place weekly separate food
waste collections for schools and Council owned offices from April
2025 and from all Wirral residents from April 2026.
The Biffa Contract ends in August 2027. Since the mandatory start
date for food waste collections begins during our current contract
with Biffa, therefore a variation of the current contract is
required, in order to start collecting weekly food waste
collections from all residents on Wirral.
As part of the contract variation order, food waste caddies were
approved to be jointly procured as part of the Liverpool City
Region partnership.
Further to the committee report recommendations, which were
approved at ECET committee on the 11th March, this ODN is to
purchase the food waste caddies via the Liverpool City Region
Partnership as per approved recommendations.
