It was resolved that the minutes of the meeting of
Council held on 25 September 2025 be amended as follows:
Item 5. Urgent Business to read:
“The Mayor advised that there were no items of
Urgent Business to consider. Councillor
Akberali requested an opportunity to speak in regard to his Notice
of Motion on Gaza under this item. The
Mayor advised that the request was not a matter of Urgent Business
and could not be accepted.”
Item 15 Notices of Motion to read:
“The Mayor reported that no valid notices of
motion had been received. Councillor
Akberali requested an opportunity to speak as a point of order,
advising that the Mayor’s statement was
misleading. The Chief Executive,
Richard Carr, explained that he was required under the Constitution
to determine whether or not a motion was valid. In the case of Councillor Akberali’s Notice
of Motion, he had judged that the motion was not valid for the
reasons previously explained to Councillor Akberali in
correspondence. The Mayor’s
statement was therefore accurate.
Councillor Akberali asked what course of action he
could take if the Motion was not accepted, highlighting
consequences of ignoring people’s concerns and equating it to
mistakes in the past. The Mayor advised
Councillor Akberali to raise the matter outside of the
meeting.”
Following the decision, the Council held a
minute’s silence in recognition of the terrible situation
faced by the residents of Gaza.
