Agreement to direct award a contract to manage
the Cafe, Pavilion and football pitches at Cantley Park to Berks
& Bucks Football Association

Reasons for the decision

The café and associated rooms are an
important part of the overall service offer at Cantley Park, and
were recently developed, with assistance of a grant from the
Football Foundation. One of the conditions of the grant is that the
café and rooms remain as part of the overall service offer
in the park
The café has been making an operating loss and over the past
18months the Council has looked at a number of options to improve
this position in light of wider financial pressures and to ensure
the service met local needs. To date we have been unable to
identify a café operating model that covers its costs and
the only operating models that do not result in a cost to the
council are for alternative use.

Alternative options considered

As explained above, officers have been
exploring options to maintain/improve the service offer whilst
providing a financially sustainable operating model for some time.
Options explored have included internal service provision,
alternative private sector suppliers and a market expression of
interest.
